Day 1 - Arrival in Rome and transfer to Siena
Private transfer from Rome FCO airport or Train Station or your Hotel to your accommodation in Siena.
Day 2 – Perugia, Assisi and Cortona Excursion from Siena
Experience the three most interesting artistic towns in Tuscany and Umbria: Cortona, Perugia and Assisi from Florence on a tour with the comfort of your private guide and your private driver.
The ancient town of Cortona, dating back to Etruscans and Romans times, recently became famous and very popular with the book and the film “Under the Tuscan Sun”. Strolling at your own pace through the narrows medieval streets reach the Piazza della Repubblica and the nearby Piazza Signorelli where there is an Etruscans Museum. Admire the stunning views till the lake Trasimeno from its terraces.
Perugia is an elegant town rich of history and famous as every year host the annual festival of chocolate. Admire the center of Perugia with the famous Fontana Maggiore, one of the most important medieval monuments in Piazza Grande and the magnificent view of the surroundings from Piazza Italia.
Strolling in Corso Vannucci, the most elegant street for shopping with the Palazzo dei Priori the center of the medieval political power.
The hill top religious town of Assisi where you could visit the majestic Basilica of St. Francis consecrated by Pope Innocent IV in 1253 whose interiors were frescoed by Cimabue, Giotto and other late medieval painters.
The basilica includes the Upper Church, the Lower Church, and the crypt in neo Romanesque style where from the 1818 there is the tomb St. Francis.
Visit the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli whose interiors preserve the Porziuncola, a stone chapel restored by St. Francis himself. This is the very precious chapel where St. Francis understood his vocation and considered the most sacred place for the Franciscans.
Your private day tour to Assisi, Cortona and Perugia ends at your hotel in Siena late in the afternoon.
Day 3 – Siena and San Gimignano
In the morning a private walking tour of Siena with your own guide to visit the Church of San Domenico also known as Basilica Cateriniana.
The historical streets of Siena admiring the Palazzo Salimbeni built in gothic style is now the headquarters of the bank Monte dei Paschi di Siena and Palazzo Tolomei one of the oldest in Siena.
Piazza del Campo built in the beginning of the 1300's, is the principal public space of the historic center of Siena and is where the Palio race is held on July 2 and August 16 each year.
At the northwest edge of the square there is the Fonte Gaia the endpoint of the system of conduits bringing water to the city's centre.
The magnificent cathedral of Siena, The Duomo, built in Tuscan Gothic style is a "must do", inside the Duomo, the inlaid marble mosaic floor is one of the most ornate of its kind in Italy and the pulpit, made of Carrara marble, was sculpted between the end of 1265 and November 1268 by Nicola Pisano.
In the afternoon, private escursion to San Gimignano the small medieval town known as the Town of Towers. San Gimignano was founded like a small Etruscan village, then the town developed greatly during the Middle Ages thanks to pilgrims on their way from the west France to Rome as it was placed on the Via Francigena.
