In the morning you will meet your private driver at your hotel in Florence and he will take you to the beautiful area of the Carrara Marble Quarries on the white peaks of the Apuan Alps where Michelangelo took the marble used for his sculptures such as The David in Florence, La Pietà in the Basilica of Saint Peter.
With your driver, reach the entrance of Michelangelo's favorite quarry for the special quality of its marbles. From there with your local guide you enter the heart of the quarry, immense white rooms many called Marble Cathedral, with the staff of the marble quarry - to feel comfortable in the marble cave but remember your pullover and hiking shoes.
You will receive detailed information on the birth of the tunnel quarry, the machinery and their use, the extraction techniques and of course information on marble as a material used in the various sectors.
Descend from the quarries to reach the coastal area. There you will appreciate a visit to a winery where you will learn the winemaking process and aging techniques. Wine tasting accompanied by a light lunch including a selection of local cold cuts, cheeses, fresh bread and extra virgin olive oil.
Continue to Pisa to admire the Leaning Tower in Piazza dei Miracoli before returning to Florence to your hotel with your private driver.
