Private day tour to visit the iconic symbols of Rome: Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel, Saint Peter Basilica, Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine hill with your private guide and skip the line tickets.

The Colosseum is the largest amphitheater ever constructed in the Roman Empire and is regarded as one of the finest examples of Roman architecture.
Skip the line tickets let you visit the Colosseum without waiting in long lines. More than 50,000 people could fit inside the Colosseum, which hosted public performances including gladiatorial contests.

Admire the Arch of Constantine, a triumphal arch built to mark Constantine's victory over Maxentius at the Battle of Milvian Bridge in AD 312 and located between the Coliseum and Palatine hill.

The marketplace of Rome, the Roman Forum, was regarded the center of political and social activity around which the ancient Roman civilization grew. It was located in a valley between the Palatine Hill and the Capitoline Hill.

Climb the Palatine Hill, one of the Seven Hills of Rome, which is said to be the oldest section of the ancient town of Rome and, according to tradition, the location where the she-wolf discovered Romulus and Remus.

With the assistance of your knowledgeable guide, you may appreciate the Vatican Museums, which began as a collection of sculptures amassed by Pope Julius II and have grown to become one of the largest museum complexes in the world.

The Vatican Museums' approximately 1300 rooms are home to thousands of well-known pieces of art, including paintings and sculptures.
Just to name a few, there are pieces of art by Michelangelo, Bernini, Raphael, Caravaggio, and Giotto.
Since it is impossible to see everything, your private guide will only take you to the most important parts of the Vatican Museums.

Enjoy the Sistine Chapel's architecture, which is reminiscent of the Old Testament Temple of Solomon. Pope Sixtus IV restored the chapel, which gave it its current name.
Later, the chapel received frescoes by some of the finest Renaissance painters, including Botticelli and Raphael.
Michelangelo also painted the chapel's ceiling between 1508 and 1512, with Pope Julius II serving as his patron.

The Vatican Tour continues with your personal guide toward Saint Peter Basilica, home to Michelangelo's Pietà, a masterpiece of the Renaissance.

F.A.Q.

  • What is so important about the Colosseum?

The Colosseum, also known as the Flavian Amphitheater, is an iconic symbol of ancient Rome and one of the most important and well-preserved monuments from antiquity. Several aspects contribute to its significance:

1. Historical Importance: Built in the 1st century AD, the Colosseum stands as a testament to the architectural and engineering prowess of the ancient Romans. It was commissioned by Emperor Vespasian of the Flavian dynasty and completed by his son Titus in 80 AD. The Colosseum was primarily used for gladiatorial contests and public spectacles, such as animal hunts, mock naval battles, and executions. These events were not only entertainment but also served political and social purposes in Roman society.

2. Architectural Marvel: The Colosseum's elliptical shape, tiered seating, and system of corridors and ramps for efficient movement of spectators are architectural innovations that were ahead of their time. It could hold between 50,000 to 80,000 spectators, making it one of the largest amphitheaters of the ancient world. The use of concrete, arches, and other engineering techniques allowed for such a grand structure to be built, and it has influenced architectural design for centuries.

3. Cultural Symbolism: The Colosseum has come to symbolize the grandeur, power, and brutality of ancient Rome. It serves as a reminder of the scale and sophistication of Roman civilization, as well as the violent and often cruel aspects of its entertainment and political life. Its image is widely recognized around the world and has been featured in numerous works of art, literature, and popular culture.

4. Tourism and Heritage: Today, the Colosseum is one of Rome's most visited tourist attractions, drawing millions of visitors from around the globe each year. Its preservation and conservation efforts are crucial for maintaining its cultural and historical significance. Additionally, the Colosseum is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, recognized for its outstanding universal value and importance to humanity.

Overall, the Colosseum stands as a symbol of ancient Rome's power, ingenuity, and cultural legacy, making it an essential landmark in human history.

  • Where did all the marble from the Colosseum go?

Much of the marble that once adorned the Colosseum was likely removed and repurposed over the centuries for various construction projects throughout Rome. During the medieval and Renaissance periods, when the Colosseum fell into disrepair and was no longer used for its original purposes, the valuable materials within it became targets for scavenging.

Some of the marble was likely taken to be used in the construction of churches, palaces, and other buildings around Rome. Additionally, earthquakes and other natural disasters may have caused further damage to the structure, leading to the removal of marble for repair and reconstruction efforts elsewhere.

While the Colosseum itself still stands as an impressive testament to ancient Roman engineering, much of its original decorative elements, including marble, have been lost to time. Today, visitors can still see remnants of the marble facade, particularly on the lower levels, but the majority of it has been removed or worn away over the centuries.
