With approximately 70.000 square meters of gardens and a museum, Villa Carlotta is a location of exceptional beauty, where works of art and natural wonders coexist peacefully.
A veritable sea of vibrant azaleas arranged in tall, circular cushions bordering the garden walks at Villa Carlotta on Como Lake is available in April and May. Other foliage features include camellias and rhododendrons, some of which are hundreds of years old.
Nonetheless, the gardens are well worth a visit throughout the year because of the ancient camellia varieties, century-old cedars and sequoias, massive planes and tropical plants, the Rock Garden and Ferns Valley, the Rhododendron Wood and Bamboo Garden, the Agricultural Tools Museum, and the breathtaking views of the Lake that have made this location famous over the years and are still referred to as "a place of heaven."

Built in 1787 on the site of a Franciscan monastery, Villa Balbianello on Como Lake features two towers that were originally the convent church's bell towers. Perched atop a steep promontory overlooking the lake, the villa offers a panoramic view of the lake with its terraces, flower-fringed balustrades lined with statues, and a garden abundant with azaleas, magnolias, and cypresses. The house is home to a small museum including records and artifacts from the voyages of the last owner, the explorer Guido Monzino, as well as a remarkable collection of Chinese, African, and pre-Columbian art and priceless English and French furniture from the 1700s.

Villa Melzi, located on Como Lake, is an English-style garden created by botanist Luigi Villoresi and architect Luigi Canonica. It features a row of plane trees as its main avenue, a small bamboo grove beside the entrance, and a Japanese garden with twenty-five Japanese maples. Other features of the Villa Melzi garden include rare Mexican pines, azaleas, camelias, and an orangery. Additionally, there is a private chapel.
