San Gimignano is well known as “the town of the towers”, as its towers, the medieval skyscrapers, are visible from miles away. San Gimignano was founded like a small Etruscan village, then the town developed greatly during the Middle Ages thanks to pilgrims on their way from the west France to Rome as San Gimignano was placed on the Via Francigena.
It is a town rich of works of art that you could discover at your own pace. Very interesting are the Collegiata, a Romanesque Duomo with its beautiful frescoes of Ghirlandaio and other masters, the church of Sant'Agostino with frescoes of Benozzo Gozzoli and the archeological museums with Etruscan and Romans artifacts illustrating the origin of the town.
Don’t miss a stop in the Piazza della Cisterna to enjoy of the best gelato in town.

Monteriggioni is a walled city in a strategic position between Siena and Florence, it had great importance in the Middle Ages during the conflicts between Siena and Florence.
Now Monteriggioni is a town with intact defensive walls and perhaps one of the most evocative medieval towns in Italy.
