You will see some of the most emblematic sights of Rome's historic center during your 3-hour private tour with your guide, such as:

The Trevi Fountain, the largest Baroque fountain in Rome, was only completed in the 18th century after Bernini had initially designed it for Pope Urban VIII.
The Trevi Fountain is also famous for the Fellini film with Anita Ekberg and Marcello Mastroianni.

Piazza Navona built on the ancient Circus of Domitian, from here its oval shape, can be considered the pride of the Baroque in Rome. The most beautiful Baroque square host the sculpture of Bernini, the famous Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi (Fountain of the Four Rivers). The church of Sant'Agnese in Agone by Francesco Borromini and Girolamo Rainaldi reflects the opulence of the Baroque style. Overlooking Piazza Navona is Palazzo Pamphilj designed by Borromini which houses one of the richest art collections of paintings and sculptures in Rome.

Some of Caravaggio's best images on the life of San Matteo may be found the church of San Luigi dei Francesi which is adjacent to Piazza Navona.

The Pantheon, one of the best-preserved structures from the time of the Ancient Romans, constructed in 120 AD by the emperor Hadrian and used as a Catholic church since 609 AD. Numerous notable burials have taken place at the Pantheon since the Renaissance.
The artists Raphael and Annibale Carracci, the composer Arcangelo Corelli, and the architect Baldassare Peruzzi are buried there, along with two Italian kings: Vittorio Emanuele II and Umberto I.

The magnificent Basilica Sopra Minerva, located behind the Pantheon and constructed in 1280 on the site of a Minerva temple, is the only Gothic cathedral in Rome.

One of Rome's most recognizable landmarks, the Spanish Steps, was constructed to connect the Trinità dei Monti church and the Bourbon Spanish Embassy.
The Fontana della Barcaccia, a Baroque fountain that resembles a boat that is ready to sink (Fontana della Vecchia Barca), was created by Pietro and his son Bernini and is located in the square at the foot of the stairway.

Piazza Farnese with its Palazzo Farnese (a fine example of Renaissance architecture) houses a pair of granite basins dragged into Piazza Farnese by the Baths of Caracalla in the 16th century.
The Farnese family commissioned their favorite architect, Girolamo Rainaldi, a Baroque architect, to adapt two monumental ancient granite basins for the construction of fountains.

Piazza del Popolo where in the centre of the square you'll see an ancient Egyptian obelisk, brought to Rome by Emperor Augustus on a side of the square two examples of almost identical baroque churches: Santa Maria dei Miracoli and Santa Maria di Montesanto and on the north side the Church of Santa Maria del Popolo hosting works of art of Bernini, Caravaggio, and Pinturicchio.

  • Which is the history of the Spanish Steps?

The Spanish Steps, or "Scalinata di Trinità dei Monti" in Italian, is a famous staircase located in Rome, Italy, connecting the Piazza di Spagna at the base with the Trinità dei Monti church at the top. The history of the Spanish Steps is rich and dates back to the 18th century.

Here's a brief overview of the history of the Spanish Steps:

1. Construction: The Spanish Steps were built between 1723 and 1725 under the commission of Pope Innocent XIII. The purpose of the staircase was to connect the Piazza di Spagna, which was at the base of the hill, with the Trinità dei Monti church, which was located on the hilltop.

2. Design: The design of the Spanish Steps is attributed to the Italian architect Francesco de Sanctis. The staircase consists of 135 steps arranged in a series of terraces, with elegant curves and symmetrical proportions. At the top of the staircase is the Trinità dei Monti church, which adds to the grandeur of the overall architectural ensemble.

3. Name: The name "Spanish Steps" comes from the Spanish Embassy to the Holy See, which was located near the base of the staircase in the Piazza di Spagna. However, the staircase itself has no direct connection to Spain. The name is derived from the area where the steps are located.

4. Cultural Importance: Over the years, the Spanish Steps have become a popular gathering place for locals and tourists alike. The staircase is a symbol of Rome's beauty and grandeur and has been featured in numerous works of art, literature, and film. It is also a popular spot for people-watching, socializing, and enjoying the scenic views of the city.

5. Restoration and Preservation: The Spanish Steps have undergone several restoration and renovation projects over the years to maintain their structural integrity and aesthetic appeal. The most recent major restoration took place between 2014 and 2016, funded by the luxury fashion brand Bulgari, which contributed to the preservation of this iconic landmark.

Overall, the Spanish Steps are not only a magnificent architectural marvel but also a cultural and historical symbol of Rome, attracting visitors from around the world to marvel at their beauty and significance.
