Visit the archeological sites of Pompeii and Herculaneum, climb on the summit of Mt Vesuvius on a private day tour starting from your hotel in Positano where meet your private driver.
Your tour will take you to Pompeii, Herculaneum and Mt. Vesuvius to return late in the afternoon to your hotel in Positano.
The eruption of Vesuvius in the morning of the August 24th 79 A D preserved Pompeii, important town of about 20.000 inhabitants, exactly how it was, completely covered in 30 feet of volcanic ash.
In Pompeii you can see the theaters, the temples, the private villas of the rich with their exquisite frescoes and the quarters of the servants, the wine shops, the bakeries and the public baths.
The center of the economic and religious life ‘The Forum’. The houses with well-preserved wall paintings and frescoes, the houses of noble families as the House of the Faun. The ancient inns where foreigners arrived in Pompeii could eat and buy wine ‘The Termopolium’. The plaster body casts of the inhabitants of Pompeii victims of volcanic ash and gas.
The remains of the Roman “Herculaneum” lie within the area of modern Ercolano, north of Pompeii and south of Naples. The ruins at Herculaneum are well preserved and much smaller than those at Pompeii, so it is very possible to walk through the entire excavation and see all the highlights.
In the contrast to the mostly single-story buildings of Pompeii, in Herculaneum the private houses and public buildings were with two or even three floors with a great use of wood in doors, staircases, beams and shutters.
Once arrive on Mount Vesuvius you can climb the mount (approx 30 minutes) and walking around the crater to enjoy of the panoramic view of the entire Gulf of Naples.
